An Introduction to the Emerging 5G Evolution : A Technical Security Specialist's (TSS) Perspective

The uncertainty surrounding the emerging transformation of the existing 4G | LTE and WI-FI networks with massive new capabilities, such as the emerging DECT 6.0 | CAT IQ standard for VoIP, when combined with the massive rollout of 5G networks and millions of IOT devices has generated considerable concern within the technical security industry, for good reason!

Unfortunately, very few technical operators appreciate or understand the emerging nature and extent of the challenges soon to be realized.

5G and other related wireless communication technologies will have a profound impact on the ability to secure client facilities and critical national security infrastructure, with a high degree of confidence.

Existing wireless policies will basically will become an impossible task to enforce from a practical perspective.

This presentation will focus on the core need to know challenges from a TSCM perspective by providing, a non-technical review of the challenges associated with the emerging 5G capabilities.

  • Gain insight into the use of 5G technology operating totally outside of the licensed cellular spectrum.
  • Understand the implication of licensed wireless carriers utilizing the shared unlicensed ISM bands.
  • Develop an understanding of the emerging commercial, private use of LTE-U technology.
  • Learn about the 5G radio-frequency spectrum bands and understand the use of 5G within the 3G and 4G spectrum.
